I used a dell HDMI to USB C adaptor for £10 and used Bluetooth mouse on a 1080p screen. Worked fine on a note 8

hey bud. just the man i needed to talk to. i got the dex cable a few months back but i've been using my 9+ hotspot anyways because something isn't working right with Dex. its the stupidest thing, if i hold my phone, dex runs perfect. but if i put it down, the tv screen keeps cutting in and out. i thought maybe its the electric or heat that my had is putting off, so i put the phone on top a lamp. that actually works for the most part. however, it doesn't have its times of cutting on and off on me again. so i exsperimented with the hot spot. turning it on and off to see if either or made a difference. so far i noticed it doesn't work properly when i first plug dex in. in that case i switch the hotspot on or off. it seems to work alot better once i switched it on or off. on or off doesn't matter it seems, just messing witht the hotspot in general, seems to effect the tv screen issue of cutting on and off on me…

any idea whats going on with it or any tips? thanks k

you dont have a 1440 option cause you have a 10e and a 10e only has a 1080 screen. the other phones default to a 1080 resolution so my guess is you didnt go in and select the 1440 resolution.

You don't need that cable, I have a normal type c to hdmi and it comes up with dex. You don't need that cable.

Any practical uses for Dex or is it just a gimmick? Most people wouldn't have a monitor/tv, mouse, and keyboard lying around. Instead they would be using laptops/tablets for serious productivity or media consumption.

At the minute 5:38 you are wondering why this can't let you put the full 2K resolution. That could be by the cause if the HDMI version is a lower version than the 1.3, this can limit you only to use 1080p. For 4K resolution it requires the version 1.4 or 2.0.

I just ordered the more expensive multiport adapter. Hope that works with 3840×2160. It advertises 4k so my hopes are still up.

Dex works with any cheap Type C to HDMI cable. No need to buy expensive Samsung iteration.

Nice thing about DexPad is that it will cool the phone as well as extra conns; however, you need to remove the case. One of the biggest problem with DeX is that there is NO xterm or terminal available like tillix https://gnunn1.github.io/tilix-web/#packages. As a development env not having split windows & tabbed terminal is a real disappointment. This will open up the possibility to act as ssh beast to cloud environment. https://www.termius.com/ does have tabbed but it does not have split screen & more over it cost $60/yr.
Would have been nicer to just screen cast DeX rather than having a cable.

to me this is the coolest feature dex capable samsung phones and others have. any other flagship phone that can't do this, can't be considered the best phone.

I wonder if you can use this while on a wireless charger. Might possibly allow you to have more than 5 windows open too.
